Samantha Wynne, Bridal Designer and Pearls of Australia

Star of the West

In a time when collaborations are more important than ever, Pearls of Australia have teamed up with pre-eminent West Australian bridal designer Samantha Wynne to release an exclusive pearl jewellery range featuring Australian South Sea pearls from Cygnet Bay pearl farm (WA), designed and made with the quality, heritage and local craftmanship that Wynne bridal gowns and Pearls of Australia are both renowned for.

After 2 years in the making, this capsule collection has been named the ‘Star of the West’. It is a legendary tale about the most valuable pearl ever discovered in 1917, a story* now etched in Broome’s pearling history. Fast forward to 2020 where our version of the Star of the West pays homage to a contemporary collaboration, showcasing many firsts for West Australian design and featuring a stylised star emanating from an Australian pearl – the centre piece of a ring, pendant and earring ensemble.

Working together with Pearls of Australia Product Development Manager – Sarah Hughes, Samantha Wynne has drawn on her love of Art Deco design to inspire her first jewellery range, creating the perfect complement to Wynne’s one-of-a-kind dresses.
“When Pearls of Australia agreed to embrace our partnership, and once I overcame the nerves of working with the technical side of jewellery design, I found myself in my creative element – completely inspired by pearls and diamonds. I am grateful for this opportunity and the experience, knowledge and guidance from Sarah and her team has made the collection a perfect marriage for the bridal and fine jewellery market” Samantha Wynne.

Each piece hall-marked by both Samantha Wynne and Pearls of Australia and features locally grown Australian South Sea pearls from Cygnet Bay pearl farm, with diamonds set in gold.
The earrings and pendant have multi-functional components, allowing the wearer maximum versatility. Each item is available to be custom made in rose, yellow, and white gold with hand-selected pearls of the customer’s choice. True to the cornerstone of both businesses, each piece of the collection is crafted and designed uniquely in Western Australia.

“In coming up with the concept with Samantha, we needed to draw on the essence of quality and timelessness of our Cygnet Bay Pearls and her bridal wear. We wanted the collection to honour the sacred ritual of her brides, to be a piece of jewellery that will not only be with them for life, but beyond to the next generation. It had to stand the test of time in only a way that a collaboration of the world’s highest quality pearls and the best bridal designs could achieve” said Sarah Hughes.

Pearls of Australia is a 3rd generation family business with 75 years of pearling experience. The only pearl farmer to cultivate both species of Australian pearl shell, they take pride in growing the highest quality South Sea pearls north of Broome WA, and Akoya pearls near Sydney NSW. At the heart of Pearls of Australia is a focus on provenance and purity (natural colour and lustre without chemical treatments). They are industry experts driven by heritage, innovation and are passionate about working with other creative Australian businesses.
